Annual Activities
Service trips are a great opportunity for Liahona students and families. Learning should motivate us to do some greater good in the world, and these trips provide remarkable experiences to turn learning into action. Past projects have included travel to the Mexico Yucatán area a Navajo reservation, and the Philippines. We have worked at orphanages fixing water tanks and plumbing, re-roofing, cleaning wells and outdoor water systems, rebuilding schoolhouses and teacher homes, providing medical and dental care, donations of school supplies, and clothing/shoes to children, and families in need.
Participants are responsible for flights, food, and souvenirs. Costs vary. Anyone in the immediate or extended family of an enrolled Liahona student or graduate, in good standing, is welcome to attend. Tuition must be current. Due to the nature of these trips, we ask that those under age 10, as well as those with health issues, participate only with an accompanying parent or chaperone. Unfortunately, we cannot accommodate young children on their own. We reserve the right to refuse eligibility based upon a student’s past Liahona history. These periodic trips provide a chance for Distance Education students and Academy students to interact and develop friendships and are traditionally held in June.
Service Trips costs includes:
Transportation, entrances, and accomodations
Super trips give us the chance to study an area rich in history, such as: Boston, Washington D.C., Philadelphia, and Gettysburg for American History; Mayan ruins in Mexico which bring to life the Book of Mormon; or England and Scotland to study the threads of freedom incorporated into the U.S. Constitution such as the Magna Carta, John Knox, and to New York for a Broadway and Arts Tour.

Youth conference is an extended gathering of Academy and Distance Education students similar to FSY. Youth Conference is designed to build faith in Jesus Christ, strengthen testimonies, develop talents, serve others, make new friends, and have fun. Students participate in activities, service projects, a dance (8th grade and up)/movie night (7th grade and under), as well as attend nightly performances and multiple speakers throughout the day. Past performers have included: Dyer Highway, Vocal Point, John Schmidt, Noteworthy, Michael B., Sam Payne, Kid History, Nathan Osmond, Joshua Creek, Madeline Paige Walstad, Kjersti Long, Divine Comedy, Ryan Shupe and Alex Boye. Past speakers include: John Bytheway (yearly), Hank Smith, Brad Wilcox, Stan Ellsworth (American Ride), Ganel-lyn Condie, Jessie Clark Funk, Jason Hewlitt, Kenneth Cope, Janice Kapp Perry, Larry Gelwix, and Michael MacDonald.
Held the week following October General Conference, DE and Academy students stay in cabins at Aspen Grove, BYU’s alumni camp. Youth Conference is only for registered Liahona students in fifth grade and up who are in good standing, and the cost covers lodging, food, and all activities. No visitors are allowed. The dance, for those 8th grade and up, is only for Youth Conference attendees or Liahona graduates.
Parents may register and attend as a participant, but chaperones are pre-selected, and must submit to a background check. Youth Conference fills up quickly and is considered one of the favorite opportunities at Liahona. Because it is an extra cost, Youth Conference is optional, and students not attending enjoy a week out of school.
Prom is always held the Thursday before April General Conference. If you are coming for Conference, come a little early and join us for a special evening. Prom is only for currently enrolled students 14 years of age and up. A date is definitely not required. Dress standards apply, and invitations are sent in advance.
